My path into classical Feng Shui and why it changed how I see homes forever
You don’t know what you don’t know.
When my boss asked me back in 2012 if I wanted to attend a Feng Shui seminar, I don’t think Feng Shui was even in my field of awareness. I’m not sure I had really heard of it at that point. We went along, enjoyed the content so much, that the four of us who attended decided to engage the Feng Shui Master to come and do an in-home consultation for each of us.
I could feel an immediate shift in energy. A few things unfolded that made me feel the abundance activations were working. At the time, I didn’t question it too deeply; I simply noticed the changes.
After I sold that home, entered a new relationship, experienced a whirlwind four years, and then found myself beginning a new chapter in many areas of my life, I had an intuitive reading. One of the pieces of guidance offered to me was simple:
“How about you get into Feng Shui?”
I remember clearly replying, “Yes, I know about Feng Shui.” Or at least, I thought I did.
I returned to my design office and began to consciously implement the Bagua within my small workspace, making subtle adjustments to support the Five Elements. What surprised me most was how little I needed to change. Intuitively, I had already arranged the space in alignment with Feng Shui principles, without consciously knowing I was doing so.
From there, I began creating my own Feng Shui guide for my design clients. What started as a single page explaining the Bagua gradually evolved into a comprehensive guide. Now over 30 pages, it focuses on how to Feng Shui your home and create Sacred Spaces that support the whole family
I carried that guide with me when I attended a Mind Body Soul Expo, thinking it might simply be a useful reference. While there, I met a vibrant woman who owned a Feng Shui store and was also a stallholder at the event. As we chatted, I showed her the guide, and she asked me a question that would quietly change everything:
“Have you considered studying classical Feng Shui? I know a wonderful teacher who covers all the principles.”
I didn’t hesitate. I went home, explored the website, booked a call with the teacher, and soon enrolled in a 12-month course.
I was blown away by the depth of the practice. The idea that a home has its own energetic birth chart, and that this chart influences not only the building but the people living within it, completely expanded my understanding. I loved every moment of learning. For a time, I seriously considered leaving my long career in interior design to become a full-time Feng Shui consultant.
A wise person gently reminded me how beautifully the two disciplines complemented one another, and that many of my future clients would likely find me through design. That perspective stayed with me.
I began integrating what I had learned with my design clients, while also forming meaningful connections with other practitioners and Masters. I joined professional associations and discovered an entire world I hadn’t known existed.
One Master, in particular, stood out. His teachings came from a 39-generation lineage of classical Feng Shui. When the opportunity arose to study with him in Melbourne, I knew it was time to go deeper.
The accuracy of this lineage was extraordinary. Through a compass reading alone, layered with ancient principles, so much could be revealed. The teachings resonated deeply. The knowledge soaked straight into my soul. I knew this depth of understanding would allow me to work with greater precision, and would profoundly enhance the way I design homes, particularly kitchens and bathrooms.
The most transformative moment came during a chapter known as the Five Thunder Killings.
As the Master explained the specific conditions required for this activation to exist within a home, I felt a quiet shock. My family homestead, built by my great-grandparents and where I live now, aligned with every single condition.
This combination is associated with serious accidents and natural events, including electrocution. When I was 17, my father was electrocuted in a farming accident and passed away.
Not only did the home’s energetic activations align with this teaching, but my father’s birth animal was also one of the four most susceptible to this occurrence. As I revisited my study notes later, I realised lightning strikes were also part of this same combination. Within six months of my father’s passing, the farm experienced two lightning strikes. Thankfully, he survived those incidents, walking away with little more than a headache.
For many years, I believed the way my father passed wasn’t important. I held the view that when it’s your time, it’s your time. I remain deeply grateful for the 17 years I had with an extraordinary father.
Yet, as my understanding of Feng Shui deepened, so too did my awareness that every detail forms part of a much bigger picture.
With almost two decades in the building and design industry, I understand how much is invested emotionally, financially, and energetically when building, renovating, or purchasing a home. This is why I believe Feng Shui deserves a place within the design process of every family home.
We all want lives where our families feel supported, healthy, and at ease. Our homes are not passive backdrops; they are active participants in the lives we live within them.
In my next blog, I’ll share the best stage to engage a Feng Shui consultation when building, renovating, or purchasing a property.
